U.S. Embassy in Senegal

Due to national political announcements scheduled for this evening and calls for unrest based on potential political events, U.S. citizens may expect sporadic protests throughout Senegal this evening continuing on to tomorrow, Tuesday, July 4th, 2023.

Protests and clashes with police over the past few months have resulted in deaths and arrests.

U.S. citizens are strongly urged to avoid any areas where such events are ongoing.  If the Embassy receives more information regarding demonstrations, we will send updated alerts.

Actions to take:

• Monitor local media for updates.
• Avoid crowds.
• Avoid demonstrations.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
