Due to tensions related to Ousmane Sonko’s trial, there is an increased risk of spontaneous demonstrations throughout Senegal today. While protests can be peaceful, they can also quickly turn confrontational and escalate into violence between police and demonstrators. American citizens are urged to avoid any areas where demonstrations are ongoing.
Actions to take:
· Monitor local media for updates.
· Avoid crowds.
· Avoid demonstrations.
· Be aware of your surroundings.
· Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
