The Embassy has confirmed that two protest marches are scheduled in Dakar today from 15h00 to 18h00. Although the protestors were denied authorization, the marches could still take place in some form, in Dakar or elsewhere in Senegal. One was planned to move between Rond Point Jet d’Eau and Terminus Liberté 5 in Dakar and the other between Place de l’Obelisque and Rond Point Gibraltar on Boulevard General de Gaulle in Dakar.
American citizens should remain vigilant and note that events can quickly turn confrontational and escalate into violence. American citizens are urged to avoid any areas throughout Senegal where such protest events, or reports of such events, are ongoing.
Actions to take:
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Avoid crowds.
- Avoid demonstrations.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
