A hearing on Friday, November 17, regarding the election eligibility of Ousmane Sonko is scheduled to begin at 9:00am at the Senegal Supreme Court (located on the Corniche in Dakar), and protests are possible in Dakar, Ziguinchor, and throughout the country when a verdict is announced.
The Embassy has confirmed that a demonstration is planned in Dakar for November 17 at approximately 15:00. The march is planned to begin at Jet d’Eau roundabout in Dakar and travel towards Liberte 5 terminus.
American citizens should remain vigilant and note that events can quickly turn confrontational and escalate into violence. American citizens are urged to avoid any areas throughout Senegal where such protest events, or reports of such events, are ongoing.
Actions to take:
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Avoid crowds.
- Avoid demonstrations.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
