There are protests planned for today, Friday June 2nd, 2023 at the following locations:
Dakar at the Place de l’independence
Ziguinchor at the Rond-point Aline S. Diatta
Thies at the Place de France
Rufisque at the Rond-point Juuti Ba
Protests should be expected throughout Senegal and may occur sporadically. These events may quickly turn confrontational and escalate into violence. The U.S. embassy is aware of the Government of Senegal’s reports that 9 people were killed in June 1st clashes, and many more injured. American citizens are strongly urged to avoid any areas where such events are ongoing and maintain situational awareness. If the Embassy receives more specific information regarding dates and times of demonstrations, marches, or gatherings we will send updated alerts.
Actions to take:
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Avoid crowds.
- Avoid demonstrations.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
