The U.S. embassy is aware that there were sporadic protests including burning tires and police response including tear gas in Dakar and other cities in Senegal on February 5. American citizens should be prepared for the possibility of continued protests throughout this week. If the Embassy receives more specific information regarding dates and times of demonstrations, marches, or gatherings, we will send updated alerts.
Political demonstrations can quickly turn confrontational and escalate into violence. American citizens are urged to avoid any areas where such events are ongoing.
Actions to take:
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Avoid crowds.
- Avoid demonstrations.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
