Event: Institution of additional restrictions in Dakar and Thies beginning January 7
On January 7, the Government of Senegal announced further restrictions applicable in the regions of Dakar and Thies to address a rise in COVID-19 infections.
These restrictions include bans on all:
-public meetings;
-private gatherings, including weddings, baptisms and large religious gatherings; and
-gatherings at hotels, concert halls, bars, cafes, beaches, markets, sports fields, dance clubs, and weekly markets.
A daily 9:00 pm to 5:00 am curfew remains in effect for the Dakar and Thies regions.
Blaise Diagne International Airport continues normal operations. Air travel passengers may travel to the airport during curfew hours provided they are able to produce evidence of air travel (e.g. passport and ticket). A driver of a vehicle transporting a passenger to the airport should be prepared to produce copies of the traveling passenger’s passport and ticket.
Due to the evolving situation, U.S. citizens are encouraged to continue to monitor the official Senegalese Ministry of Health website, World Health Organization site and the U.S. embassy COVID-19 information page for updates.
