Event: Mandatory use of facial coverings
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, on April 20 the Government of Senegal ordered that use of facial coverings is now required in all public spaces and on public transportation. Face coverings must be worn in taxis, markets, supermarkets, and office buildings. Expect this requirement at all local businesses.
As previously noted, on April 16 the Government of Senegal extended the suspension of all international air travel (with limited exceptions) through May 31, 2020. The State of Emergency announced on March 23 remains in effect, which includes the following measures that may affect U.S. citizens in Senegal: daily 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew; increased regulation of the movement of people, vehicles, and goods; prohibition of parades, rallies, and public demonstrations on public roadways; closure of public meeting places; and the prohibition of public or private meetings.
At this time, the U.S. Embassy does not anticipate that there will be additional charter flights organized by the Department of State and U.S. Embassy from Dakar to the United States. Most commercial options remain unavailable.
In the event future charter flights become available, please complete the information in this form for each traveler wishing to depart Senegal. You must complete a form for EACH intended traveler, including children and non-U.S. citizen accompanying family members. If you have already submitted this form to provide your information to the U.S. Embassy, you do not need to do so again. We have automatically retained your information and will contact you if future flights become available.
Given the closure of airports and reduction of flight options worldwide, U.S. citizens remaining in Senegal and Guinea-Bissau should be prepared to remain in place for the foreseeable future.
The U.S. Embassy Dakar has suspended all routine consular services, including routine American Citizen Services. Monitor our Embassy webpage on COVID-19 for information on conditions in Senegal. The U.S. Embassy remains open for emergency American Citizen Services, please contact us by email at DakarACS@state.gov.
