Medical Readiness Training Exercise 19-2 starts in Dakar, Senegal

In partnership with the Armed Forces of Senegal, U.S. Army Africa will conduct combined Medical Readiness Training Exercise (MEDREX) 19-2, in Dakar and Tambacounda, Senegal, April 8-26, 2019.

Medical military personnel from Senegal and the United States will participate in this exercise.  Both militaries will conduct medical operations and procedures together in an effort to share best practices, build capacity and strengthen capability.

“USARAF is committed to maintaining a ready medical force while strengthening our partner networks by working side-by-side and sharing medical best practices,” said Col. Kelly Murray, U.S. Army Africa’s Command Surgeon.

MEDREX 19-2 allows U.S. forces to train in an alternatively resourced environment, share medical procedures, and build lasting relationships with Senegalese medical professionals. Senegalese medical professionals enhance the Senegal healthcare system’s ability to deliver effective general surgery and trauma response in support of regional U.N. and African Union missions.

Once the exercise is complete, U.S. participants will return to their home station.
