Senegalese Armed Forces, Gendarmerie Mobility Commander, General Tine, recently received an award on behalf of Armée du Sénégal, General Kane, for his actions and participation of the Senegalese Armed Forces during FLINTLOCK 16.  The award was the “USSOCOM Medal for Foreign Military Personnel.” SOCAFRICA nominated the general for the award, which is issued to non-US persons who have made exceptional and distinctive contributions to Special Operations Forces.  Presenting the award was General Raymond A. Thomas III, Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) at the International Special Operations Forces (ISOF) conference, Tampa Bay, Florida.

General Tine’s participation marked the first time the Senegalese Gendarmerie took part in the ISOF conference.  The Gendarmerie are Senegal’s premier crisis response force and are currently partnered with a US Special Operations Team, focused on Countering Violent Extreme Organizations in West Africa and coordination between host nation agencies. Special Operations Command Forward – North West Africa (SOCFWD-NWA) has a strong relationship with Senegalese Armed Forces and over the past four years has contributed to the development of Forces Special de Senegal (FSS). SOCFWD-NWA and FSS will continue to focus on countering violent extremism and building stronger coordination between host nation agencies throughout West Africa.  Senegal is as a strategic leader in West Africa, setting the benchmark for social development, economic stability, and military capacities to ensure a better future.
