Assalamou Aleikoum, good morning,
I am honored to be here for the opening of the inaugural “Women in Law Enforcement Regional Conference: Paving the road for women.” The United States commends the leadership of the Government of Senegal for leading this initiative—the first in the region—and for being such gracious hosts.
Your presence here is evidence of the strong partnership between nations, and a shared recognition in the indisputable correlation between women’s empowerment and global peace.
The U.S. maintains a deep commitment to the meaningful inclusion women in law enforcement in an effort to achieve this peace.
We hope this coming week serves as a platform for the fruitful exchange and cultivation of ideas, strategies, and approaches for best practices in supporting women in the law enforcement—from increasing recruitment, retention to increasing leadership opportunities.
I am confident that, due to the dedication and strong partnership reflected by this group, this conference will be one of many joint efforts to bolster the crucial role of women in law enforcement.
In April this year the Regional Security Office from the US Embassy organized a law enforcement 5 km fun run for charity with proceeds (400,000 cfa) to be donated to support Women in Law Enforcement in Senegal.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite the representative of the Association des Pionnières de la Police Nationale and the representative of the Amical de la Premiere Promotion des sous-officiers féminins de la Gendarmerie Nationale; those 2 organizations were chosen as recipients of 200,000 cfa respectively to continue on the work done with and by women in law enforcement.
I wish you a good and productive conference.
We are together – ÑO FAR
